How to get spores in Michigan

Looking to get psychedelic mushroom spores in Michigan? Now that psilocybin containing mushrooms are decriminalized in some cities in Michigan, it is a great time to start your own research with mushroom spores.  Here’s everything you need to know about how to acquire magic mushroom spores in Michigan.

Magic mushrooms on a balance scale representing the legality of psychedelic mushrooms

Michigan Psychedelics Laws

There are currently three cities in Michigan that have passed legislation to decriminalize natural psychedelics such as psilocybin containing mushrooms. Ann Arbor was the first city in Michigan to decriminalize magic mushrooms back in September of 2020. Detroit also passed legislation for decriminalization of psychedelic mushrooms in November of 2021. And most recently, Hazel Park has followed suit of the other two cities and passed their own laws to decriminalize natural psychedelics.

While magic mushroom spores were already legal to purchase and possess in Michigan for microscopy use, the recent decriminalization means that law enforcement will make enforcing the laws surrounding the cultivation and consumption of psilocybin containing mushrooms their lowest priority.

P. Ovoids

Go Hunting

While the most commonly cultivated mushrooms, P. Cubensis are not found natively in Michigan, other species such as Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata can sometimes be found in the nearby Ohio River Valley.

Once a mushroom is found, you can harvest the spores by making a spore print or spore swab. A spore print is made by removing the cap from the stipe (stem) then placing it gills side down on a clean piece of aluminum foil and covering it with a container or bowl. A spore swab is made using a sterile cotton swab to run through the gills of the mushroom to collect the spores.

Disclaimer: Consuming wild mushrooms can be dangerous and even deadly if improperly identified. Make sure you do thorough research and/or consult an expert before consuming any mushrooms found in the wild.
