Your friend finally comes over and has a special bag of magic mushrooms, they pull out a grinder, then a cup, a water bottle, a lemon, and finally; the bag of gold. They see the confused look on your face as you eye down the lemon. “Dude get ready”
I am have a feeling a lot of people share a similar story, maybe you read it on a forum. They all typically have the same explanations of why this is the best way to consume mushrooms, which originate as microscopic spores. As no extensive testing has really been done on the true mechanisms at play, I am going elaborate on this as if true. This is an educated guesses.
Method:
Put desired weight of dried mushrooms into grinder
Grind to extremely fine powder to maximize surface area (coffee grinders work great too)
Dump contents of grinder into cup
Squeeze lemon by hand or reamer into the cup to cover entirely and mix well
Let rest for 5-20 mins
Drink!
You can dilute with water if the lemon is too much for you but don’t be afraid to mix it with other juices and have a “mushtail”
Psilocybin transforming to psilocin:
Psilocybin is considered a “prodrug”, or one that must be further processed before being metabolized in any meaningful way. Psilocybin is a phosporylated tryptamine whose bonds can be dephosphorylated into the tryptamine psilocin. Dephosphorylation is encouraged in acids, as well as enzymes like alkaline phosphatase. The stomach PH ranges 1-2 where as a lemon ranges 2-3. The thought is that while soaking in the lemon, it mimics your stomach acid, it starts to create the more psychedelic and mind altering psilocin. This supposed reaction results in a much more intense but shorter lasting experience as the lemon juice does the work for you.
