APE is an albino cubensis strain with a grey/white cap, and a large, generally solid stem. Unlike most cubensis strains that have hollow stems, the true APE strain will have a rock solid stem, adding to its higher-than-average weight seen in individual fruits of the strain.
Where did APE come from?
The exact origins of Albino Penis Envy mushrooms are a bit blurred. There is little we know about APEs true creator, however, thanks to in-depth journal work by Hamilton Morris, we now have a full understanding on the origins of its grandparent, the Penis Envy mushroom. Albinos do not just exist on their own. They always come from a predecessor. For example, when out in the fields hunting wild mushrooms, it is highly unlikely you’ll find a true albino. Even if you do, once cultivated indoors, that same albino will most likely grow standard pigmented mushrooms.
To achieve a stable, or “true” albino, cultivators must clone a albino sample, and isolate it through a series of redundant transfers. In the case of APE, this predecessor was the Penis Envy mushroom. Back in the day, at some point in time, someone was growing out Penis Envy mushrooms, and was surprised with the gift of an albino mushroom.
However, creating APE was not as simple as a single transfer. In order to stabilize it to the consistent albino, uniquely potent mushroom it is today, its discoverer had to grow it out dozens of times, cloning tissue, and going back to spore over and over again until they had the same results, every time it was grown. To sum up the origin of APE, while we cannot for certain say who originally brought this anomaly to life, we know it was a descendant of the Penis Envy creator, Rich Gee.
Are APE mushrooms really that potent?
The short answer is yes. Albino Penis Envy mushrooms really are that potent. Giving off a visual and body experience unmatched by almost any other mushroom strain on earth, it is universally agreed upon that APE is one of, if not the most potent Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms. Do Albino Penis Envy mushrooms produce spores?
They sure do! The APE strain produces loads of spores, however, unlike most Cubensis strains which drop visible purple spores after their veils have broken, APE produces clear spores, which are invisible to the naked eye. In mycology, albino mushrooms are defined as completely lacking pigmentation which results in a white cap, and clear, colorless spores.
