Microscopy Features
Spore features: Tak Mountain Cubensis spore prints contain beautiful dark purple to brown spores.
Cap / Stem features: This strain produces wide saucer-shaped caps and beautiful pale fruits. John Allen worked with this strain over 70 days, and at least eight distinct flushes. Its early flushes show aggressive, vigorous pinning, producing caramel-to-rust-brown caps with fine white speckling, as well as thick white stipes. As Allen continued the grow, the mycelium cake naturally broke into separate chunks, each of which continued producing fruiting bodies well into later flushes, underscoring the strain’s hardiness. Specimens from the 5th flush show the classic blue bruising at the base of the stipe, highly characteristic of the strain.
Lineage: John Allen discovered the first specimen in the Tak province of Thailand, alongside a team from Chulalongkorn University. Allen’s colleague, Dr. Prakitsin Sihanonth pointed out a single specimen around the side of their lodge. The lone mushroom had pushed up through the grass next to a shed of powdered buffalo manure fertilizer. That single mushroom became the founding specimen of the Tak strain.
