Blue meanie is a legendary cubensis mushroom strain, with records going back to the late 1980’s. Not to be confused with panaeolus cyanescens, which are commonly referred to as blue meanies. The name comes from the deep blueing that can be seen on the flesh of a magic mushroom. During our mushroom hunts in Florida, we commonly find psilocybe cubensis and panaeolus cyanescens growing right next to each-other. I have yet to see the two species growing from the same dung patty, but as close as 1 foot away from each-other is common.

This specific isolation of the blue meanie cubensis was brought to us from our friends at JetFuelSpores. Our friends in Amsterdam say this species produced little bell caps that were reminiscent of the classic shape of a liberty cap mushroom. The spores on this strain are purple to dark brown when spores are piled densely. It’s a great strain for beginners looking for ease, as well as experts looking to add a solid performer to their collection.

    Of the 3 suppliers for spores and isolated syringes, ITW is the only supplier whose products have given results. One of the failed isolated syringes suppliers honored their guarantee, but even the second shipment from them failed. Meanwhile, I’ve now seen results from multiple ITW products and can confirm ITW will be the one and only supplier for mycology study specimens. I knew ITW had a great reputation but now I know just how much better they are.

    These Blue Meanie spore syringes showed results to grain just as quickly to agar which is crazy. And despite using no flow hood or still air box for the agar, they’re perfectly clean. I’ve since acquired those items for a more sterile environment but this hobby is way more fun when you can be confident in the quality of cultures/spores even without the necessary tools. Syringes came very full of visible spores compared to other suppliers and the same has been true for isolated syringes as well. Thanks ITW!
