The owner and his friends spend much of their free time in the woods searching for rare and unique mushrooms to clone from. Like most domesticated organisms, the further we go away from the “mother source”, i.e., (the wild specimen), the less opportunity for unique variation, something highly valued by breeders. Because of this, breeders in the mycology industry commonly find themselves running into non-viable and weak cultures. By selecting wild specimens to grow out and selectively breed from, breeders immediately will find themselves in a class of their own, being able to provide genetics as well as edible / medicinal fungi to the community that is truly one-of-its-kind. While we specialize in gourmet cultures catered towards experienced breeders, there is no reason for new fungi fans to not give wild cultures a try.
